Brick Latrines

Project Details

Project Description

For many impoverished families, a washroom visit means a visit to a shallow hole covered by a few boards and “hidden” behind some burlap bag fragments or cardboard. In order to improve sanitation and simple dignity, we’ve now built over 40 brick latrines with concrete floors sitting atop a 35-foot hole and covered with a steel roof. The facility also includes a space for private sponge bathing.

The cost of building a latrine is approximately $550 (Canadian) and is funded primarily by individual donations toward this program with each family/organization that provides funds noted with thanks on the wall of the structure.
